SERIOUS PREMEDICATION CHANGES BY THE ADA

In the February 2017 issue of the ADA journal, they are restating their 2015 finding that, "in general, for patients with prosthetic joint implants, prophylactic antibiotics are not recommended prior to dental procedures to prevent prosthetic joint infection."¹ Furthermore, they state that the "evidence fails to demonstrate an association between dental procedures and PJI (prosthetic joint infection) or any effectiveness for antibiotic prophylaxis."¹ Naturally, if the patient or the orthopedic surgeon still recommends coverage, the ADA suggests to comply with their recommendation. .
