Medication Moderation

Tremendous amounts of press lately have confirmed that US doctors are prescribing too many opioid products. Our patients are getting hooked, unable to drive while under the influence, and in 20% of the prescriptions, are "sharing" their medications. New research and indications for a combination of over the counter NSAIDs can help your mild to moderate painful procedures. This chart published in the May Compendium will help you quickly decide on alternatives.

Mild to Moderate Pain
400mg - 600mg ibuprofen every 4-6 hours

Moderate to Severe Pain
400mg - 600mg ibuprofen with 500mg acetaminophen every 4-6 hours

Severe Pain
400mg - 600mg ibuprofen with 650 mg acetominophen and 10mg hydrocodone every 6 hours for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, use 400mg - 600mg ibuprofen with 500mg acetaminophen every 6 hours.
